About

dog dad + photographer + filmmaker

Self-taught. Focused on faces and places. Guided by intuition. Fueled by curiosity and an insatiable hunger for storytelling. Billy Henry’s work lives at the dusty crossroads where fiction, nonfiction and abstraction intersect, creating a supernatural world that orbits around narrative and energy. He is a film photography purist. And considers digital a tool in the toolbox for select jobs, projects and clients.

Drawn to fringe subcultures, renegades, outsiders, free spirits. Frequently works with artists of various mediums. Is forever-immersed in visual dialogue with his immediate surroundings.

Relentlessly explored and worked from the road with his dog Griffin (Rest In Peace Bubba) in Southern California and Colorado. And now continues the Road Dog ethos with his new pup Cash, adventuring throughout Southern California - most often in their home territory - the High Desert.

Loves working with teams yet is skilled and experienced as a singular production guru: photography, directing, cinematography (super 8 and video), writing, casting, set design, styling, location scouting, and editing.

Various photobook and zine projects in the hopper with works selected from:

portraits and landscapes made in California’s High Desert

portraits and landscapes made in Los Angeles

portraits and landscapes made in and around mining, railroad, and farming communities of Colorado’s mountains and High Plains

portraits and landscapes made in a lyrical labyrinth in Tennessee and Kentucky

pictures made in the trenches of demolition derby culture in an isolated Colorado mining town

Also in pre-production on two short films.

Billy Henry and Cash Henry are based in the sacred California High Desert + Los Angeles.
